Mini-Auto-Scrubber

First, I want to clarify that I prefer the autoscrubber over any 'spaguetti' style wet mop system. The latter is useful for picking up a spill quickly so that no one falls due to water damage. But none of these systems will be better than the autoscrubber. Simply because this system allows wash with clean water! So we're going to look at these multiple possibilities in this article, in addition to seeing some mini-scrubbers that I was given the chance to see in action.

A small clarification I would like to add to this article: I do not receive any compensation from any distributor or manufacturer. Having spent more than 30 years in this business, I have developed a great pleasure in discovering the latest developments in our field. And I am happy to share my discoveries with you. If you think there is a piece of equipment that should catch my attention, let me know, I will be very happy to discover it!

Self-propelled scrubber for confined spaces

I would say that most serious equipment manufacturers have at least one mini scrubber to offer in their equipment fleet. We used to see scrubbers from 26 inches wide and up. These had to be pushed by the operator and their purchase cost was $10,000.00 and up.

We even saw ride-on scrubbers (the operator sits on them). These were monsters, over 30 inches long, and they cost a fortune to buy – easily over $20,000! Few people could boast of having this type of equipment on their projects!

What a surprise it was to see a hasauto-scrubber of 21 inch, self-propelled, at an affordable price too, made in CANADA …WOW! This Canadian company is Dustbane. Their equipment is worth knowing. It is without useless frivolity and is rock solid! They rarely break, word from a user! So I'll leave you the pleasure of discovering their beautiful little marvel, the 21″ Ride-On Micro-Scrubber

Another line of equipment that I loved working with are the brand's auto-scrubbers Taski, little charmers that will please your employees! The self-propelled scrubber we had simply never broke and all the employees wanted to drive it! It was the Taski Swingo 4000. Of course since then, Taski has invented several mini-type formats as well. But what I remember is that it was very easily malleable and was spinning on a dime as they say, a charm to drive!

Rear-drive scrubber for tight spaces

We also have smaller, more affordable walk-behind scrubbers. One I like is the Tennant, the T300. What a beautiful little beast this little machine is! Maintenance on the part of the operator is reduced to a minimum. An important point for Tennant: they have put the parts that need to be rinsed or maintained by the operator in yellow. No unnecessary trinkets on the screen that could confuse the operator. Their equipment is affordable and delivered quickly. I also discovered on their website that they also have a range of refurbished products. I will have no fear, since they have beautiful technology, solid and well built. The website of Tennant is full of information as well as videos demonstrating the effectiveness of their equipment.

Now let's look at the types of mini scrubbers

Just like the ride-on mowers and the rear-drive mowers, there is a wide selection and I suggest you ask for a demonstration. There is no no obligation to purchase however you will be sure of the choice of equipment you need.

One of my favorites is that of ComacHere is a short video where you can see how small it is and how it fits under racks or under bookcases or even in bathrooms.

Dustbane which we talked about a little earlier in this article also offers a mini scrubber starting at 14 inches! Amazing, isn't it? They also have 2 other sizes of this type of equipment available, including the Mini Hurricane

Which mini scrubber do you need?

I am pleasantly surprised by the diversity of equipment now available and within everyone's reach. I could have given you plenty of other choices above. However, the important thing is to choose the right one that truly meets your needs. YOUR NEEDSThe best way to answer this question is to list your criteria:

  • What kind of dirt do you need to pick up?
  • Do you have to wash floors in a customer area? You will then have to pay attention to the noise of the equipment during washing.
  • What type of flooring is it? Tile, ceramic, cement, terrazzo?
  • Does the equipment need to go under racking or low shelving?
  • How wide should the equipment not protrude, even when turning?
  • How much battery life do you need? A second battery might be a good solution.
  • Are you in a food environment? In this case, the washing equipment and brushes must be easily accessible and made of easily washable material.

As you can see, choosing a floor scrubber isn't as easy as it seems. And even though I really liked the equipment presented above, that doesn't mean I can tell you exactly what you need without having seen the location and the specific challenges of your building. After making your list of criteria, make a list of equipment that could meet your needs. And request a demonstration of each of this equipment. The representatives will make a We would be pleased to give you a demonstration at your premises, completely free of charge.. Take the time to choose the right equipment.

Don't skimp on training, despite the simplicity of the equipment.

It is true that the operation of this equipment is relatively simple. However, I notice that repair costs are very often high due to the lack of training given to employees. There are several minimal maintenance points to be carried out every day and every week. Also, it is a good idea, once or twice a year, to have all your scrubbers systematically inspected by people specialized in this field. Several distributors of this equipment offer the preventive maintenance service. This might even be part of your selection criteria! I plan to do an article about it and when it is done, I will update this article.

As you know, I strongly believe in training to improve the quality of building maintenance. Having the right equipment, accessories, and cleaning products is just as important. I suggest you don't make price your main criterion when making your choice. Instead, focus on the time you'll save due to the quality of the work you'll receive.
