WHMIS—Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System—governs the labeling and safe handling of hazardous products in the workplace. Since December 1, 2018, all employers, suppliers, and manufacturers must comply with the 2015 version, which is harmonized with the Globally Harmonized System (GHS). This short, practical training course provides workers and managers with the basics to recognize hazards, read labels and safety data sheets, and handle products safely.

Training objective
Enabling participants to understand their legal obligations, to recognize the hazards associated with the products used, and to know how to read labels and safety data sheets to handle and store hazardous materials safely.

- Understanding what WHMIS 2015 is, its harmonization with the GHS, and the legal obligations of employers and workers.
- Recognize the major categories of hazards: physical hazards, health hazards and environmental hazards.
- Interpreting hazard pictograms.
- Read and use labels and safety data sheets (SDS).
- Choose appropriate personal protective equipment and store products safely and in accordance with regulations.
