Example of a housekeeping work route

Housekeeping work route

Here is an example of a housekeeping job route

Note that the term roadmap hygiene and sanitation is also used. The work route is developed to separate the cleaning work of a building over the work week. We may also have to carry out several work routes depending on the size of our building. To this end, we would like to remind you that although two buildings have the same amount of square footage, there are several other points to consider when determining washing times. A consultant specializing in hygiene and sanitation, such as CF Salubrité, can develop work routes for you if necessary.

Important points to include there

  • Coordinates of the building concerned
  • Area of the building for which the employee will be responsible
  • The employee's name
  • His shift
  • At a minimum, we list the premises, the task to be carried out there, and the schedule we want to see respected.
  • You can add the color of the cloth that this task requires
  • As well as the product that should be used.

Principles to consider in choosing your words and phrases

Keep it SIMPLE! As you probably know, housekeeping jobs are partly filled by employees of another nationality who speak French, but who cannot write or read it. In addition, some of the employees have minimal education. It is worth considering the use of images to demonstrate certain instructions (use of the correct washing cloth, product, equipment or washing accessory, etc.). For some employees, we will even illustrate the entire work route in images (for people with severe disabilities).

Additionally, if you want employees to easily remember what they have to do, it's best to stick to the facts without any embellishments. Try to keep it to 1 or 2 pages, and a maximum of 3 pages.

If you want a task to be completed at a specific time, specify it like this: 10:10am or 1:30pm. Easily visible next to the task to be completed.

A realistic work route

Make sure the employee has enough time to complete all of their tasks.

  • You will need to consider time wasters, for example, changing your wash water regularly.
  • Have washing times checked by people qualified for this type of exercise or by using specialized software. All hygiene and sanitation consultants have access to this type of software, including CF Salubrité.
  • If your employee has to respond to various vendors who come to the building, change lights, or make minor repairs, you will need to consider these tasks in their work schedule.
  • Washing times in summer and winter are not the same, so this must be taken into account.
