Ask not what your country can do for you, but rather what you can do for your country.
A quote from John Fitzgerald Kennedy
This quote speaks to me a lot during this holiday season. My thinking is this: if every citizen started to "care" about their fellow citizens, imagine what a wonderful atmosphere we would have!
What could I possibly do?
Despite a disability, budgetary constraints, your intelligence or any other obstacle, I don't see any citizen incapable of fulfilling this challenge! By the way, here are some others challenges that I've thrown at you over the years!
Disabled? Your journey could inspire others so much!Question
No money!Your smile, an encouragement would have such an effect on some people!
Not smart:You probably have other assets, use them!
I don't know what to do: …Ask what the other person needs!
I don't have time!Come on! We all have a few minutes a day, a week, or a month to give. Respect your ideals, respect the time you have, that's all.
I don't want to be recognized: Do it anonymously!
Here are some ideas that charmed me
Offer food
Providing 4 families with holiday meals without judgment (I've been doing this for 3 years, and it makes people so happy.
Donate any excess food you have in your cupboard, fridge, or freezer to your local food bank.
Distribute baskets of fruits and vegetables.
Make bread and take it to the organization for the needy in your area
Innovate for your city or municipality
Walk while respecting social distancing
Have a space, a shed, at the community center, for example, where people can leave food, new warm socks, a hat, etc.
Participate in an organization of your choice, ask them about their needs and see what you can do.
Go play music at your local seniors' home or just go listen and chat!
Suggest a free activity and host it, just for fun. It could be an invitation to walk, run, etc.
Provide transportation for the elderly.
Offer to your own family
Buy a gift card for a single parent in your familymake-a-donation-during-the-holidays
Listen, without judging or imposing, just be there for him or her.
Go play or offer your time to the children in your family whose parents have less time!
Go cook or clean when you have time
Offer your time
Leave rocks or other surprises, decorated or with a word of encouragement, for citizens in your city or park.
To receive a lonely or sad person for dinner or supper.
Offer your listening, free of charge, without judgment, without thinking of anything else, just offer your presence full of empathy to the other.
Go to the homeless and ask if they need clothes or food or etc.
Helping a child with homework and lessons to help them succeed
Make an anonymous donation
Donate to a foundation that is close to your heart, for example to “ Children's Dream " For example
Support youth centers
Take a pie to the neighbor who is alone and have a bite and coffee with him or her
Instead of throwing away your still-working oven or refrigerator, give it away for free. No questions asked, no justification required, just give.
Pay for the coffee in the car behind you in the queue at McDonald's or Tim's or...!
Adopt a family for the holidays or before school registration time and equip them with what they need
Giving doesn't have to be complicated!
I could have gone on and on giving you ideas. I'm sure you already have plenty of ideas. Stop stressing, you don't have to be perfect to give.
