Preventive maintenance on upright vacuum cleaners

This week, I decided to talk to you about the different types of vacuum cleaners available. We now have an excellent selection of vacuum cleaners on the market. However, I see that employees don't always use them correctly, for the right type of job, and on the right flooring.

This article contains a lot of references to equipment and suppliers. Please note that these are items I have tried and tested. I apologize if I don't cover all manufacturers or suppliers. I can't talk about what I don't know. But I'd be happy to test them if you give me the opportunity.

The ergonomics of vacuum cleaners

I remember the old sanitary-style vacuums well. They only picked up what passed through the center of the vacuum and couldn't quite reach the edge of the wall. This left a trail of uncollected dust along the edge of the walls. Plus, the vacuums threw up almost as much as they sucked up. I'm exaggerating a bit, but still, the suction quality left a lot to be desired.

Today, however, manufacturers have not only revolutionized this industry, but have also improved ergonomics and weight for the worker. Vacuum cleaners are now much lighter. Also, backpack vacuum cleaners are better suited.

Vacuum cleaners have undergone a revolution and are becoming increasingly expensive, but most vacuum cleaners from reputable manufacturers are much more durable. It's no longer enough to look at the price, but rather at their durability to assess their true cost. If you have to replace them regularly instead of keeping them for several years, it's no longer profitable. It's therefore worth carefully assessing your needs.

Other points to check when purchasing

The following points should be checked before purchasing a vacuum cleaner according to actual needs.

  • There necessary sizeThere are vacuum cleaners on the market ranging from 10 to 30 inches wide. Depending on the type of building and surfaces you need to maintain, optimizing the size of the vacuum cleaner will save you time. And as we know, labor time is the most expensive part of housekeeping.
  • What type of residue Do you need to vacuum? Wet or dry? Dust requiring high suction or regular suction? Fine dust or debris? All of this will influence your choice, especially if you choose a wet/dry vacuum or vacuum cleaners with a HEPA filter (suction level of 0.3% micron).
  • Who will be using the vacuum cleaner? If everyone uses it and no training is provided, your vacuum cleaner may be mishandled or used incorrectly.
  • Desired sustainability: So if you want durable vacuum cleaners, I think it's important for staff to be properly trained. How many sweeper motors are burned out each year because they were used to vacuum wet entrance mats when they were only made for dust?!
  • Capacity and strength of the desired engine: If you need to use the vacuum for hours picking up large debris, it will be appropriate to choose a device with 2 or 3 motors, industrial capacity, with a capacity of several dozen gallons. This exists, but not all manufacturers have this type of vacuum cleaner. So, you have to shop around. If you only need it for a few minutes a day, however, perhaps a small hand tool would suffice?
  • The noise produced: In some cases, the client requires quiet vacuum cleaners. You will therefore need to examine the technical specifications of the proposed equipment to test which ones will meet your needs.

The upright vacuum cleaner

There are several choices of vacuum cleaners. First, I believe it is better to invest in good vacuum cleaners. Several types of sizes are available from different manufacturers: From 10 to 32 inches. Of course, they will cost you more than $500.00 in principle. However, you will keep them for several years especially if you take care of them. The attached image can help you identify the important points to prevent on upright vacuum cleaners.

Personally, I have a weakness for Windsor upright vacuum cleaners. Over the years, these vacuum cleaners have improved and if you take care of them, you will be completely satisfied. But I am sure that many other manufacturers make them just as good, of course. Their vacuum cleaner NuWave is especially useful when you have wide, long corridors.

Furthermore, the Nilfisk range also has good products, especially on street sweepers and Ride-On sweepers. I'm sorry, these last two sites are only in English. However, contact your usual distributor, they should be able to show you the range of equipment on display.

Taski now has a very nice range too! As well as having a great website in French ! Yahoo. Each piece of equipment is very well detailed. A visit is worth it! BRAVO Taski! I just discovered your site and I am very grateful for your thoughtfulness towards those who speak French!

The backpack vacuum cleaner

This type of vacuum cleaner is particularly suitable for office buildings or libraries. It is worn on the hips and weighs less than 15 pounds. The trick is to properly fasten the straps. Otherwise, the employee will find the equipment very uncomfortable. Again, I have a backpack vacuum cleaner that I particularly like: the Proteam cordless one. Excellent for tight spaces, multiple desks, and stairs. In addition, Proteam is an excellent source of inspiration. In fact, they have several demonstration videos on their website. Here is a video of the Proteam GoFree cordless backpack vacuum cleaner. Proteam GoFree Backpack Vacuum Demonstration Video

The wet-dry vacuum cleaner

Be aware that there are a multitude of vacuum cleaner types with different capacities. Ranging from 8 gallons to over 50 gallons, the purchase depends on your needs. One distributor I like offers very advantageous promotional days with manufacturers on site for reference. This supplier is Sany IncYou can even sign up for their newsletter to be notified of their promotions. I'm sure other distributors are doing this kind of thing. If I hear about it, I'll be happy to update this article.

Getting back to our sheep, sheep vacuums... uh oops! of liquid or debris or dust. It's difficult for me to give a reference for this type of vacuum. It depends so much on what you plan to do with this equipment. Assessing your needs is essential. CF Salubrité offers this type of service if needed. Simply send us an email to make your request.

The sled vacuum cleaner

Okay, I have to be completely honest here. I'm not a fan of this kind of equipment! That doesn't mean it's not good. Many companies that offer residential cleaning services like this type of product. So I can't give you any references on this subject at the moment.

Portable vacuum cleaner

Oh, but I have a preference! And the big winner in this category is Dyson! Why? Because I was given the opportunity to test several models at the same time for a few days. The choice was obvious. So I'll give you the link to the TV show in which I give my impressions. It boils down to: Solid, extraordinarily efficient, above-average tools in this category that can even get into the gaps. So here is my reference: Dyson V7 Trigger or Dyson V6 Trigger +
