Annual introspection

Each year's end is a special moment for any responsible manager. But where do you begin to engage in effective professional introspection? Avoid beating yourself up while still taking advantage of the past year? How do you approach the next year?

Every year brings its share of challenges, obstacles, achievements, and successes. You may have experienced moments of discouragement this year. You've taken a new path, and you've been thinking about it in recent weeks. Some years will seem more difficult, while others seem to show that you're on the right track.

You know that annoying little voice that tells us about our doubts, our questions, that sometimes pushes us to act in this way or that, for no reason? Well, it's time to give it some space! Yes, yes, that little voice is your inner sun. Only you know exactly what you want to create in your life.

Professional introspection

The year 2020 was a learning and adjustment year for each of us. Some were able to take advantage of the pandemic. Others gave up or are still struggling to recover.

I never lose, either I win or I learn. By Nelson Mandela

Typically, at the beginning of the year, you set your goals for sales, operations, and administration for your business or organization. You will have achieved some of these goals, others are well on their way, and some will not. The reason why you were not successful must be addressed. Are these still the goals you wanted? Did you encounter obstacles you didn't anticipate? Or is it because your unsuccessful goals weren't well planned in terms of the actions to be taken?

I can assure you that cleaning up helps make room for the new year. Personally, I'm excited about the new year every time. The transition from 2020 to 2021 is thrilling. And several new things are emerging as a result of this introspection.

Introspection of what you REALLY want in your future

The New Year still allows you to dream and make your wildest dreams come true. The only person who can stop you is YOU.

Objectives and actions

The best way to achieve a goal is to write it down in a clear way. SMART. I wrote an article about this last year. But here's a refresher on the concept:

  • Specific:  What do you really want to achieve?
  • Measurable:  What is the threshold to reach, the bar you want to exceed.
  • Attractive:  It should be a goal that is challenging for you.
  • Feasible:  It must be a goal you can achieve. You will have to work for it.
  • Temporal in time:  With a very specific date by which to achieve this goal.

After carefully considering your goals, you need to create a realistic action plan. Even if you've written your goals SMART, you still need to plan and organize your actions to make them a reality. The following questions can help you get to the bottom of things:

  • For what?  What is your motivation? Remember that your goal must be challenging and achievable while requiring effort.
  • How? What resources do you have at your disposal? (Budget, people, etc.)
  • Who:  Who will be responsible for this or that action? Make sure that your objective, and especially the actions to achieve it, also meet the needs of those who will be responsible for this part.
  • Or? If this needs to happen at a specific location, indicate it.
  • When? When should each action take place? Personally, my 2021 timeline is largely planned to achieve the goals I set.

You have the choice to be the spectator of your life or to be the conductor of it.

So, now, stop being a mere spectator, stop enduring your life. Take it in your hands, it belongs completely to you. If you need help, I have a workshop called FOCUS, my objectives, my action plan with which I can support you in this exercise. I wish you a pleasant introspection!
