At Dissan, NO recruitment problems

Dissan's president, Mario Lamarche, was kind enough to explain to me how he never had a recruitment problem or even kept his staff for years. And believe me, it was a memorable encounter. First, you should know that Dissan is a group of distributors of washing products, equipment, and accessories. They've been around since 1991 and have a network that covers Canada. No recruitment problem at Dissan… How do they do it?
First, the company's president, Mario Lamarche, explained to me that every decision revolves around the employee. For some entrepreneurs, these are just empty words... During the conversation and my factory tour, I understood that at Dissan, what we say, we do!
The new employee's induction follows a week-long process, during which they will work one day per department. The goal is for them to fully understand their role in the quality process, as well as their role with their colleagues. For example, if they don't complete an order overnight, the delivery and customer service departments will be in trouble by morning. They are informed of what is expected of them. And through evaluations, they are told how they can achieve the objectives. They are given a competitive and fair salary.
The Dissan Warehouse… WOW
They also offer a pleasant working environment that makes their life as a worker easier. I had the chance to visit their Montreal warehouse. WOW!!! Everything is in its place, well organized, nothing lying around in the aisles. Moreover, the aisles are wide and safe. Everything is labeled to facilitate the employee's work. I believe it is the best organized warehouse I have ever visited and I was impressed.
Each office and conference room is comfortable and well-equipped, adorned with images of our estate. We've set up a bistro so employees can spend quality time together. And we round out the year with enjoyable activities like happy hours, karaoke, and summer evenings. And on Fridays, we sometimes get ice cream or a barbecue.
Well, so far, you're thinking... not bad, but still...?! Wait for the rest!! I was blown away to see how far Dissan's commitment to their employees goes.
Employee comfort is assessed weekly.
Every week, using Office Vibe software, the company launches surveys to test employee happiness, year-round! Five different questions are asked each week. Employees can even leave comments, always anonymous. Questions can cover physical health, commitment to the company, relationships with colleagues, their immediate superior, employee satisfaction, recognition, happiness, and more.
I actually saw the results, and it was exciting! So, leaders need to work on improving their happiness. And the results are calculated. every week, so there's no question of taking it easy. For example, Mario told me that through surveys, he realized that the physical health of their workers was a factor that needed improving. So he set up a voluntary walking club where employees are paid to go walking. Yes yes yes, you read that right.
Why so much effort?
At Dissan, we understand that an employee's happiness is reflected in their attitude at work. If an employee experiences happiness in their daily life, their work will benefit. Note that like any company, there are certainly employees who experience personal problems. The company provides them with sessions with psychological services to help them feel better. These sessions are anonymous and independent of the company, of course.
